John was born June 1, 1955 in Grand Saline, Texas, the first child of John Charles Chesser and Lela McFerrin Chesser Griffin. He married Michelle DeVee Kannenberg on June 24, 1989 in Sherman, Texas. The marriage blended together the children of two families: Kristy Diane Chesser Caldwell, Brian Scott Chesser, and Danielle DeVee Chesser Wells; and two children together: John Michael Chesser and Angela Michelle Chesser.
John is survived by wife, Michelle, of the home; children Kristy and husband Terry Caldwell of Callisburg, TX; Danielle and husband Sterling Wells of McKinney, TX; John Michael Chesser of Denison, TX; and Angela Chesser of Denison, TX. Parents Lela Griffin of Van Alstyne, TX and John Chesser of Tom Bean, TX. Siblings Earl and wife Donna Chesser of Whitewright, TX; Beverly Gunn of Sherman, TX; Judy and husband David Smith of McKinney, TX; and Scott and wife Cynthia Chesser of Dexter, MO.
Grandchildren Haley, Blake, Krya, and Breanna Bounds. Step-grandchildren Madison and Chase Caldwell.
Nieces Stephanie Chesser of Whitewright, TX; Jennifer Cummings of OK; Stacy Brewer of Howe, TX. Nephews Jordan Smith of McKinney, TX; Austin Chesser of Dexter, MO; and Matthew Chesser of Dexter, MO.
John attended schools in Van Alstyne and Whitewright, TX. He graduated from Whitewright High School Class of 1973. John lettered in football and track. He was voted Most Popular and Mr. WHS in 1973. John joined the service in October, 1973 where he was in the 82 Airborne Division of the Army. He was honorably discharged in October, 1976.
John earned his Bachelor of Science degree from Southeastern Oklahoma State University in Durant, OK. After graduating, he joined Texas Instruments/Raytheon Company. John retired from Raytheon Company after 37 years of service. Over his many years, he commuted to multiple locations including Sherman, Denton, Lewisville, Spring Creek, Expressway and McKinney.
John’s sense of humor will be fondly remembered by family and friends. He could tell jokes and play practical jokes with a straight face. He could frustrate telemarketers where they would hang up on him. John enjoyed watching high school football and any sports and activities his children and grandchildren were involved in.
John loved his children, grandchildren and family. He was a loyal friend.
John was a member of Parkside Baptist Church, Denison, TX where he volunteered in the AWANA program and in the Recreational Outreach Center.
John is preceded in death by son Brian Scott Chesser, 1997; step-father, Wyatt Griffin, 2014; and step-mother, Skip Chesser, 2015.
Pall bearers will be Earl Chesser, Scott Chesser, John Michael Chesser, Jordan Smith, Austin Chesser, Matthew Chesser and Blake Bounds.
Family visitation will be from 6:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Thursday, April 21, 2016 at Bratcher Funeral Home. Funeral services will be 1:00 p.m. Friday, April 22, 2016 at Parkside Baptist Church, officiated by Jerry Coffman and Dr. Craig Canton Burial will follow at Fairview Cemetery in Denison.
