Glen Edward Oden

DENISON – Glen Edward Oden went home to be with his Heavenly Father on August 16, 2014 at 11:30 a.m. He was born on August 15, 1927, to Wendell and Ouida Oden of Van Alstyne, Texas. He moved to Denison as a child and attended Denison schools. Glen served his country by joining the Army Air Force 16th. Communications Squadron, May 16, 1946; discharged October 2, 1947. Glen returned to Denison and went to work for Safeway Grocery store and met the love of his life at Burtis Drug store; they were married on January 1, 1949 and enjoyed 65 years of married life. He was a Master Mason in good standing of Thomas B. Hunter Lodge 1356 in Grand Prairie, Texas for over 50 years.

They had two daughters, Annette Goins and Sherry Oden born in Denison before moving to Grand Prairie, Texas, for employment with Temco Vought Aircraft. Their son Mark Oden was born in Dallas, Texas. Glen retired after 33 years and fulfilled his dream of living close to Lake Texoma so he could fish. We have many happy memories of family times spent at Lake Texoma.

He was a faithful member of the First Baptist Church in Colbert, OK, before moving back to Denison in 2005. He then joined Southside Baptist Church, which he loved very much until his health began to fail.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Wendell and Ouida Oden, brother Russell Oden, sister Aileen Harris, sister Dorothy Hines, daughter Sherry Oden and granddaughter Shelli Lacy. Leaving behind wife Patsy Vest-Oden of Denison, two children, Annette Goins and son-in-law Joe Goins, Cedar Hill, Texas, Mark Oden and his wife Rose of Ft. Worth, Texas, grandchildren, Craig Browne and wife Michele of Rendon Texas, Stacie Brown and husband Alan of Arlington, Texas, Eli Hancock and wife Rachel of Arlington, Texas, Blaine Hancock and wife Journey of Arlington, Texas, 17 great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

Services will be held at Southside Baptist Church, 3500 S. Park Ave., Denison, Texas on August 20, 2014. Family visitation will be held at 10AM and funeral services at 11AM and Graveside service at Fairview Cemetery. Brother Keith Taylor will preside over services, and music will be provided by David Hudgens and Bill Vandever.

Glen requested that memorials be made to the building fund for Southside Baptist Church.
