On January 20, 2023, Shirley Wolf Gold (maiden name Magid) of Boynton Beach, Florida died peacefully after a long struggle with Alzheimer’s disease. She was 89. She is survived by her loving husband, Perry Gold, her two sons, Earl Wolf (married to Randi) of Fort Myers, Florida, and Lance Wolf (married to Pedro Nunez) of Miami Beach, Florida, and three grandchildren, Darah, JT and Payton. She also leaves behind a stepdaughter, Cheryl Levy (married to David), along with Cheryl and David’s children and grandchildren.
Born in Philadelphia on December 16, 1933 to David and Ida Magid, Shirley was raised in Philadelphia, PA, graduating from West Philadelphia High School. In 1953, Shirley married Stanton Wolf (deceased) and had two sons, Earl and Lance. They lived in the Mt. Airy neighborhood of Philadelphia before moving to Cherry Hill, NJ. In 1991, Shirley married Perry Gold, also of Philadelphia. The couple lived in Ventnor and Margate, NJ for several years. In 1995, they moved to Boynton Beach, Florida.
Shirley was very special. Warm, deeply caring, kind, generous, smart and curious, Shirley possessed the exceptional gift of making everyone she encountered feel welcomed and appreciated. All who knew her felt her compassion, intelligence and grace. When Shirley walked into a room, she immediately became friends with everyone in it.
As a devoted and loving mother, grandmother, wife, relative and friend, Shirley treasured her relationships and was always available to lend a helping hand, listen attentively, compassionately and thoughtfully, and offer insightful and valuable advice. As a result, her family, friends and colleagues coveted her company and companionship.
From an early age, Shirley was a leader in the community. For instance, in high school, she served as president of her sorority. While raising a family, she became active in local politics and devoted substantial time volunteering to improve the lives of the underprivileged and disadvantaged, activities that she continued throughout her life.
In fact, always passionate about politics, especially as a means to create a more just and kind society, Shirley generously dedicated her time and resources to associations and candidates committed to equality and goodwill. While living in Florida, she organized a Hadassah chapter in Palm Beach County, becoming its president and devoting a substantial amount of her time and resources to it. In fact, the organization honored her as a “Woman of Valor”.
Shirley was very stylish, an avid reader, loved the arts (especially theater), was a great cook, an unrivaled cleaner, passionate about traveling, and possessed a great sense of humor.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the Alzheimer Association, in hopes of finding effective treatment and a cure for this terrible disease which sadly robbed Shirley of her spirit years before it took her life.
