Shirley Ross, 97, of Delray Beach, Florida, passed away on June 6, 2020. She graduated from Brooklyn College and Central Connecticut State College, where she received a Master’s degree in education. She was the wife of the late Albert Ross, and lived for many years in Portland, CT, where she taught both elementary school and reading in both the Portland and Middletown school systems. She was a life-long member of Congregation Adath Israel, in Middletown, CT.
Since 1991 Shirley lived in Villages of Oriole in Delray Brach, Florida, where she served for many years as secretary of the resident’s association. She also was a long-time volunteer at Loxahatchee National Wildlife Refuge. In the last four years Shirley resided in Sonata Delray assisted living, where she continued to maintain her close relationship with her family and with her friends.
She is survived by her three children: Adele and her husband Arthur Kress of Lexington, MA, Marilyn Ross and her husband Robert Schwartzberg in Friday Harbor WA, and Michael Ross and his wife Benita of Dedham MA. In addition, she is survived by seven grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren. She is also survived by several nieces, nephews, and their families.
Arrangements are being managed by Riverside Stanetsky, West Atlantic Avenue, Delray Beach Florida. Donations may be made to a charity of your choice in Shirley’s name or to your local foodbank.
