Rosie Longon Bourque, a devoted mother, proud grandmother, great grandmother and great great grandmother, passed away peacefully Tuesday, July 2, 2024 at her daughter's residence surrounded by her loving family. She was 90.
Rose was born December 8, 1933 in Abbeville to the late Eddie Longon and the late Paula Dore' Longon. She spent her early years in Mississippi, when her father moved the family and all their belongings on their shrimp boat. Some years later, the family returned home to their beloved south Louisiana, and Rose has called this home ever since. One of Roses favorite memories of her childhood was singing to all listening with the local radio station.
Rose has always been a wonderful mother, hardworking and steadfast in providing for her family. She began working in the local shrimp shops and was given the opportunity to be a cook with Abbeville General Hospital, a job that spanned two decades. She later returned to the shrimp shops until her retirement.
Rose enjoyed her life to its fullest, spending time with family and doing the things that brought her joy. She went to the Casino often, playing the slots and was a fierce Rummy player. Another of her pastimes was crafts, as her family shared her love of crocheting, sewing and quilting. She even took time to enjoy the dances at Smileys and other dance clubs in the area. But her greatest love was for her family. They reminisced about the great meals she prepared for them. Holiday meals at her home, her Sunday roast with rice and gravy with every one under one roof. It made her heart smile to have the people she loved most with her and enjoying a meal and great company.
Rose was given 90 beautiful years on the earth, and we are all so grateful to have had her with us this long. Although we will miss her dearly, we will cherish her memory and keep her legacy within our hearts and thoughts. We do not say goodbye, only farewell, as we will one day be reunited with you. Rest well. We love you.
Rose is survived by her children, Roxann B. Rodrigue (Davis), Richard S. Bourque and Patches J. Bourque (Tina); her grandchildren, Kanyon, Brayton and Dravon Bourque, Nicole Bouillion, Shondel Bourque, Starlet and Antonio (Tony) Rodrigue, Carl Bourque, Jr., Michelle Seay and Heather Sellers; her great grandchildren, Sonja, Blake, Josh, Tre, Soniah, McKayla, Leanna, Gabrielle, Ravin, Chloe, Ellie, Alayna, Aaron, Kristyn, Alexys, Madelyn, Hunter, Emma and Jaxon; 19 great grandchildren; and a host of nieces and nephews who loved her dearly.
Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, John C. Bourque; her four children, John C. Bourque, Jr., Carl J. Bourque, Sonja Rita Bourque and Cynthia Bourque Duhon; her granddaughter, Elizabeth Segura; her great grandchild, Keallie Bourque; and her sisters and brother, Audrey Primeaux, Patsy Blanchard, Georgie Pellerin and Wilfred Longon.
