Cheryl was born July 10, 1948 in Aguilar, Colorado to the late Ernest Pfaffenhauser and Marie Ann Tessitore Pfaffenhauser and was one of four children. Along with being a wife and homemaker, mother, grandmother and great grandmother, Cheryl was a proud Licensed Practical Nurse and loved caring for the patients that visited her office. Many will remember her from the years she worked with Dr. Gerald Elias, Sr. and with his son, Dr. Gerald Elias, Jr.
It was no secret that she and Earl were not only husband and wife, but best friends as well. Their love for each other grew and in 2012, they renewed their wedding vows to each other. Cheryl was also a God fearing woman and believed in her faith. She was personally responsible for bringing five young men into a life of Ministry, and they were very grateful to her for that.
Cheryl was also a member of the American Legion Post 29 Auxiliary and served as their Finance Officer. Some of favorite pastimes included traveling (Mt. Rushmore was her favorite destination) and tending to her plants.
She leaves behind many fond memories and will be forever remembered for her beautiful smile and kind heart. Rest in peace.
Survivors include her husband and best friend of 49 years, Earl Fontenot; her sons, Chuck Fontenot (Leslie) and Robbie Fontenot (Julie); her grandchildren and great grandchildren whom she adored, Britton Chase Fontenot, Carmen Lee Fontenot, Charles Christopher Vincent, Luke Fontenot, Sophie Fontenot, Sophie Duhon and Aidan Duhon; and her sister and brothers, Jeanie Mattorano, Russell Pfaffenhauser and Mike Pfaffenhauser.
In keeping with Cheryl’s wishes, no services will be held locally. She will be brought home to her beloved Colorado where private services will be held at a later date.
Because of Cheryl and Earl’s belief in the blessed work and contributions of St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, they ask that donations be made in her name to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, Memorial and Honor Program, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105-1905.
