Tony Alvarado Navarro was born to Plutarco and Esparanza Alvarado on May 28, 1921 in Ray, Arizona and left us to be with the Lord on June 15, 2012. He was the oldest of four children. He attended Jasmine School but left after the fifth grade to work to help support the family after his father died. Tony joined the army in 1942 at the age of 21. He served under General Patton in Africa and marched through Italy, France and Germany. After World War II ended in 1945, he was honorably discharged and moved to Delano, California. He was a member of the American Legion. During his first military furlough, Tony married Martha Sanchez. After the war, they settled in Delano and he worked for Dan Tudor & Sons as a supervisor in the cold storage. In 1954 they were blessed with their first child, Tony Navarro Jr. In 1972, his beloved wife Martha went to be with the Lord. A few years later, Tony married Angelina Granado and her children, Anna and Ruben were joyfully welcomed into his family. They were blessed with a daughter, Alice, in 1975. He retired in 1983 at the age of 62. Tony loved his family and enjoyed vacationing with them at Pismo every year. He cherished every opportunity to be with his children, grand children and great grand children enjoying birthday parties and family celebrations and was a precious part of their lives. Tony was fun loving and known for his sweet tooth, always having candy in his pocket and at home. In his earlier years, he enjoyed playing cards with his family, brother-in-law Joe Sanchez and his wife Josie. He also enjoyed fishing with Tony Jr. During his latter years, he would meet with his buddies for coffee every morning and went to the casino as often as Tony Jr. could take him. Tony is preceded in death by his parents Plutarco and Esparanza Navarro, his first wife, Martha in 1972 and brother Henry Valencia in 2010. He is survived by his sister Gloria Kim of Santa Ana, CA, sister Alice Reyes of China Lake, CA, his wife Angelina, son Tony and wife Debra of Bakersfield, daughter Anna Sabado of Delano, son Ruben of Bakersfield, daughter Alice and husband Milo Alomari of Bakersfield, nine grandchildren, six great grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.
