(A Tribute to My Dad by Danny Oros)
And on the 8th day, God looked down on his planned paradise and said, “I need a caretaker”, So God made a Barber.
God said, “I need someone who is willing to get up with the rooster, kiss his wife, make coffee, feed the dog, wake the kids, make lunch, warm the truck, make coffee again, and drive to work to open his shop, every day and on time.” So God made a Barber.
“I need someone who is hard-working with strong arms to plow the tough fields of human nature, sharp eyes to see the into depths of the soul, sensitive ears to hear cries of help, strong heart to give compassion during hard times, and a sense of humor to laugh at just the right time.” So God made a Barber.
God said, “Because hair, like grass, grows every day, I need someone who can endure gossip, hearsay, screaming kids, the unsatisfied, the ungrateful, peddlers, preachers, politicians, and storytellers. I need someone who can console the parents of a fallen war hero, give free haircuts to the children of a grieving mother, and support community efforts to help its youth.” So God made a Barber.
“He’s got to be someone who can work all day, come home, play with his kids, make supper, say grace, help with homework, put kids to bed, make love to his wife, count his blessings, and give thanks for all that he has received.” So God made a Barber.
God said, "I need someone who will bring a family together with the values of hard work, responsibility, and selfless service who would laugh and then sigh, and then reply, with smiling eyes, when his grandsons say they too want to spend their lives 'doing what Tata does.” So God made a Barber.
Joe E. Oros, kept his barber shop open for 50 years in Earlimart.
