Henry L. Escalante is survived by his wife of 74 years, Isabel Escalante. He will forever be a father to Henry Escalante Jr. (wife Irene), Albert Escalante Sr., Anna Flores – deceased (husband, Jesse), Michael Escalante (wife June), Lisabella Escalante.
Henry was a loving grandpa – Grandpotter – to 10 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren, and 2 great-great-grandchildren.
Henry was one of 15 children of Jesus and Estefana Escalante. Henry is survived by five of his siblings: Josie Parra, Stella Alfaro, Alice Busto, Marylou Baca, and Jenny Nevarrez.
Henry proudly served in the army during World War II from April 1944 until the end of the war. He was a decorated World War II soldier whose accolades include a Victory Medal, two Purple Hearts and the Army Presidential Citation along with other commendations. After being honorably discharged, he returned to his family, he spent most of his life as an 18-wheeler truck driver, a devoted family man, and a lover of a good cup of coffee and ice cream. He had an amazing sense of humor, loved to dance and he was kind and gracious to everyone. He was 93 years loved!
Henry was always more than his Alzheimer’s diagnosis, but it is an unforgiving illness and a journey that affected so many people around him. Visitation will be held at Delano Mortuary-Dignity Memorial at 707 Browning Road, Delano, CA 93215 on Friday, January 25, 2019 from 4:00 pm-8:00 pm; and the rosary service at 6:00 pm. The funeral services will be held at St Mary's Catholic Church 916 Lexington Street, Delano, CA 93215 on Saturday, January 26, 2019 at 10:00 am. Burial will be at North Kern Cemetery-Delano.
