I met Granny in 1984 around Christmas time. I could tell she was looking me up and down to see if I was good enough for her granddaughter. I may have I passed the test when I aked for a second helping of her breakfast biscuits and chocolate sauce.
Granny always wore these tinted glasses; you couldn't really see her eyes or read her very well, but you knew damn well she was always paying attention!
Will miss you much, Granny. I've had a great life loving your granddaughter all these years. I hope I lived up to your expectations.

Our Granny was the Best in the World.  No one could love, laugh or kick your butt at the same time, like Granny could.  She had an endless love for family and animals and it definitely laid the path for the rest of her family.  Her honesty was commendable, her laugh was contagious, her heart was bigger than the State of California.  We will never forget her and all she has done for us and the love that she instilled in us. I so enjoyed sitting on Fern's bed at the skilled nursing facility and listening to her memories of her childhood in Kansas. My favorite one was of her pony, Cricket :) 

We shared memories of Delano old timers. She could pull up names better than I could! If the name didn't come to her right away, she'd say, "I'll get it," and she did! 

Sometimes we would walk into her room, and my daughter would look at her and say, "You're looking pretty ornery tonight!" And Fern would say, "You bet I am!" Then we would have the best time just razzing each other. We filled that facility with a lot of laughter.

There were solemn times when we talked about the Lord, or read some Scripture together, or prayed together. I grew to love her very, very much.

With oodles and oodles and oodles of love.

So sorry for your loss Kaye. Your parents always watched out for my brother and I, since moving in on my 3rd birthday. I loved my visits with her over the past years. Will always remember them both fondly. One of many Lexington Street grandkids.

My Fern (Arletter) will always be a part of HEART she was my first Gal to take care of. her favorite meal for me to make her was Balonga Gravy on the Shingles. I will never forget me girl, especially because we share a our Birthday. I could go on and on. I LOVE YOU MY KAYE, my Heart is with you always......

Kaye, Bill and I are so sorry for the loss of your dear mother and our dear aunt.  Everyone will have his own memories of her, but I will always remember her infectious laugh, her perfectly coiffed hair, and "Aunt Fern's beans."  She gave me this recipe many years ago when we were visiting family in California.  My boys still refer to this dish as "Aunt Fern's beans." As I remember her and our family vacations in Waynesboro, I can't help but smile and shake my head.
Aunt Fern was always in the middle of all the fun. We will hold your family in our hearts and prayers as you say your final good-byes to your dear mother. Take of each other during this time.

I am so sorry for your loss.  I never met her, but from reading these entries, your Mother sounds like a wonderful person so now I know where you got it.  May she Rest in Peace.

Uncle Dick and Aunt Fern will always be remembered. Aunt Fern was a very kind and interesting person in my life. When our families visited , she showed sincere interest in what was going on in our lives. She was affectionate and loving mom. Always making sure Kaye was raised right and tried to shield Uncle Dick from teasing her too much. I know she will be missed but she will not be forgotten as she touched many.

I can't think of Uncle Dick or Aunt Fern without thinking of the other.  I loved being a part of this McNutt family.  I loved their relationship, I loved their sense of humor, I loved their candidness, I loved how they instilled the value of family in Kaye.  We will miss Aunt Fern and her sweet smile.

Sometimes, we take for granted....what we expect to be around forever....like our Mothers, or even close friends. On this Mother's day, we pause to celebrate those who gave us Life--those who devoted their unconditional love, care, patience, guidance and example....so, we could become caring, contributing members of society.  When they're taken from us, we are forced to reflect back upon WHO they really were.  What were they like as a child, a teenager, a young adult?  What music did they listen to?  What friends did they have?  What was their neighborhood like?  What values did they hold?  For those lucky enough to still have a Mom present, we hope you take the time and make the opportunity to tell them how very much they mean to you...and how thankful you are to be their son/daughter. We miss you, Mom, but will treasure the Legacy you passed on to us; we'll try to honor your wishes and your example.
