Rosie Lee Blackwell passed away at the age of 88 in her home surrounded by loved ones on September 26, 2018. Born August 23, 1930 in McNary, Arizona she was the daughter of Lewis P and Georgianne (Parton) Morris. Preceding her in death were her parents, her husband Charlie, and eight siblings. Survivors include three sons, Charles Arthur Blackwell, Jr., James Dale Blackwell, and Robert Blackwell; one daughter, Jo Ann Estrada; 7 grandchildren, Matt, Stacy, Randy, Amy, Jana, Stephanie, and Chris; twelve great-grandchildren, Kalob, Chloe, Cole, Degan, Hunter, Cody, Brandy, Peyton, Kori, Lewis, Sable, Jayzlei, and Salomon as well as one brother, Micky Morris and a number of nieces and nephews. Rosie was raised on numerous logging camps and attended school in a one room schoolhouse in Klamath Falls, Oregon.
Rosie was an amazing mother and military wife. She often had to handle all the household and family responsibilities alone while her husband was deployed. They moved many times during his military career and every place they moved, Rosie made it feel like home for her family. Rosie was always supportive of her husband and family and never allowed the family to suffer during Charlie’s absence. She was also an incredible grandmother and great-grandmother. One grandson describes her as the greatest grandmother in the world and says he would not be who he is today without his grandmother. One great-grandson continues to talk about how she made the best bologna sandwiches as well as the no bake cookies and chocolate cream cheese cupcakes that were a favorite by all. Every time someone walked into her home, she always offered them something to eat and drink. That was just Rosie; always wanting to take care of her family and friends.
Rosie was a longtime secretary for the Greater Oklahoma City Bowling Proprietors Association. She enjoyed bowling and bowled on many leagues throughout her life. She enjoyed being a youth bowling coach as well as a league coordinator. The Oklahoma City Bowling Hall of Fame was founded with the intent of honoring the bowlers who have contributed to the growth and welfare of bowling who shows the ability and/or service to the OKC bowling community.
Rosie was inducted to the Hall of Fame for Honor & Superior Performance and Meritorious Service induction in 1986. She was also very involved with the AARP and served as treasurer.
Rosie enjoyed watching Court TV and ID Discovery, her favorite shows were Snapped, Forensic Files, and The First 48. She was known to follow nearly all high profile cases on Court TV; if anyone ever wanted to know what was going on in one of those court cases all they had to do was ask Rosie. She also loved watching any and all musicals, and of course she loved to watch football.
Rosie was generous and kind; she never had a bad thing to say about anyone. She loved her family and always wanted family around. She was definitely one of sweetest ladies anyone ever had the pleasure of knowing. She was loved and respected by everyone who knew her and will always be missed by those she touched.
Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, October 2, 2018 at Bill Eisenhour Southeast Chapel, 5005 SE 29th St., Del City, OK 73115 with Reverend Nancy Johnson officiating.
