Randy Dean Carey was born to Ronnie Eugene Carey and Geneavieve May Carey on September 4, 1957. He grew up playing baseball and continued with softball after high school. He had a fundamental and situational knowledge of the game that surpassed many. He used that knowledge to teach his children the game of baseball and softball, along with the other children that played on the teams that he coached. He was given the opportunity to coach one last season this year and he loved every second of it. Randy loved softball, and some of his favorite memories and stories were from his coaching days.
When Randy’s physical limitations kept him off the ballfield, he continued with his competitive nature on the pool table. He enjoyed his pool league family and often invited them to his home to play. His “man cave” is where you could often find him, with the football game on the TV, music blaring, and a match on the pool table.
When he was not competing, Randy loved to hunt for a deal. He spent his weekends at estate sales and swap meets in the company of his best friend John. Randy was also a gifted mechanic. He spent a lot of his time working on things for friends and family and fixing anything that he could. He had a lifetime fishing license that he would use whenever he had the opportunity.
Randy was most passionate about his children and grandson. He was a prideful father and would tell anyone that would listen stories about his daughter the nurse, his son the pool player, and his grandson the wrestler. He loved going to wrestling duals and tournaments to watch his grandson’s matches and watched the videos when he could not attend.
Randy was always the life of the party. His children often told people who met him, “we aren’t sure if we should apologize, or charge admission”. Over the past 12 years Randy struggled with heart disease, requiring open heart surgery and several stents. Although his health challenged his physical abilities, his stubbornness carried him to pool tournaments, wrestling matches, and swap meets, where he continued to impress with his eccentricity.
Randy passed away in his home in Del City on November 1, 2022. He was preceded in death by his parents Ron and Geneavieve Carey. He is survived by his brother Vernon Carey, stepmother Betty Carey, son Michael Carey, daughter Melissa Colbert, and grandson Evan Colbert.
Randy’s memorial service will be held on November 17, 2022, at 2pm at Bill Eisenhour Funeral Home in Del City, Oklahoma.
In lieu of flowers or gifts for his services, Randy would have rather supported the things he loved and help them continue to grow. Please send any donations in his name to either:
