Melton proudly served his country for 20 years. He served in the US Navy from 1956 – 1960 and continued on in the US Air Force from 1960 - 1976. During his service in the Air Force he served in Viet Nam and was an airplane mechanic who was an expert in his field. Melton received numerous awards and commendations for his service. After retirement from the US Air Force he worked for the US Postal Service for an additional 20 plus years and retired in 1997.
He was a master mechanic able to fix just about anything. He had a passion for building bikes and his latest project was his trike that he worked on with his son & friends. He also loved going to the lake and enjoyed boating & skiing. Melton loved watching all sports especially OU & March Madness as well as hunting & fishing.
Melton fought long & hard against his failing health with great strength & character. His family and friends will miss him dearly.
Melton was preceded in death by his parents; his brothers Anthony, Able, Frank, Paul & Johnny Quintero; his sisters Beatrice Brown & Lupe Bray and his precious grandson Chance Quintero.
Melton is survived by his wife Carolyn of 48 years; his sons Melton Leon Smith & wife Darla, David Lee Quintero and Brent Anthony Quintero; his brother Rudy Quintero; his grandchildren; Brandon Quintero, Dannielle Bush, Shane Smith, Shelby Smith and Kaci Quintero; and great grandchildren Hayden, Layla & Evangelina Quintero and Cameron Bush.
His memorial service will be at 10:00 am, Friday, September 24, 2010 at the Sunny Lane Chapel.
