Mary Beth Holland passed away at the age of 70 on April 29th, 2022 in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. Mary was born on June 12th, 1951 on Sandia Army Base in Albuquerque, NM to William Young and Letha (Kingrey) Young. She married the love of her life, Larry James Holland, on July 20th, 1969 (while the preacher watched the moon landing) and together they raised two children.
Besides being a military spouse, Mary spent most of her career doing secretarial work for the military as a civilian, keeping places such as the fire department, housing department, and the personnel office running smoothly. During her time as a civilian employee, she also took up Sign Language and was a member of the Talking Hands Deaf Club. Mary retired from civil service as an Equal Employment Opportunity Specialist. After retirement, Mary enjoyed helping with the Lion’s Club.
Mary loved animals, even going so far as to drive to another state to help adopt a dog. She shared that love with her children, always surrounding them with different kinds of animals growing up. Her favorites were dogs, and she was known to provide frequent donations to the ASPCA. She had one dog of her own, Junior, but she was a very serious fur-granny as well. When she wasn’t spoiling her grand dogs, she was spoiling her two grandchildren, Gracelyn and Carson Holland.
Mary is survived by daughter Brandi and husband Herbert Horne; son Edward and wife Natalie Holland; and two grandchildren.
Services to celebrate her life will be held at Bill Eisenhour in Del City on May 14th, 2022 at 2pm. Family is requesting that in lieu of flowers/plants, please make a donation on behalf of Mary to a Kanoa Rescue Foundation, Oklahoma Humane Society, or to a local animal rescue or shelter.
