Jerry Stephen King, 70, of Edmond, Oklahoma, passed away on May 1, 2024, surrounded by his loving family. He was born on September 21, 1953, in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, to George Loyed King and Ruby (Arnold) King.
Jerry was a devoted Christian, guided through life by his faith in Christ. He had a passion for music, particularly the guitar, which he enjoyed playing both as a hobby and in music ministry over the years. Jerry cherished the moments he spent making music with his family, especially his brothers.
Growing up, Jerry learned the value of hard work and perseverance. He became the first in his family to earn a bachelor’s degree, paving the way for others.
Before his retirement, Jerry served as the Chief Mechanical Inspector for Oklahoma City. As a Master Code Official (MCO) and Certified Building Official (CBO), he was widely recognized for his expertise in building and mechanical safety codes. A respected teacher, Jerry readily shared his knowledge with others in the field.
Jerry will be remembered for his dedication to serving others. His acts of service, both big and small, were a testament to his kindness, humility, and tireless commitment to lending a helping hand. He had a remarkable ability to fix almost anything. When others needed help, Jerry consistently went the extra mile. His life exemplified the profound impact of selflessly giving one’s time and talents to uplift others.
Jerry was a loving husband, father, and grandfather who always put his family first. His friendly and unique sense of humor endeared him to all who knew him.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Cynthia “Cyndi” King; daughters, Kerri Lightner (Steve) and Lori Collins (Stephen); sons, Jared King and Zachary Howell; grandchildren, Tate, Lily, Soleil, and Zephaniah; brother, Paul King (Robbie); sister-in-law, Willene King, and numerous extended family members and friends.
Jerry was preceded in death by his parents, George Loyed King and Ruby King; sister, Ruby McCray; and brothers, Loyed King and Jimmy King.
Although our hearts are heavy with his loss, we take comfort in knowing that we will be reunited with Jerry again one day. His legacy of faith, love, and service will continue to inspire us all.
A visitation for Jerry will be held Tuesday, May 7, 2024, from 10:00 AM to 2:00 PM at Sunny Lane Funeral Home, 4000 Se 29th Street, Del City, OK 73115, with funeral service following on Tuesday, May 7, 2024, from 2:00 PM to 3:00 PM. Committal to follow at Sunny Lane Cemetery.
