Frank was born in Merced, California on September 14, 1948, to Archie Burks and Anna Lee Miller. He graduated from Le Grand High School in 1967. He entered the Army in 1969, and served in Vietnam from 1970 to 1971, and he continued to serve in the reserves until 1975. He moved to Oklahoma with his wife Kathy in May of 1975, along with their two sons David Soares and Donald Lee Afonso. Their family grew in 1978 and 1979, when they had two more sons, Christopher Brian and James Edward Burks. He went on to work in the oilfield industry for 35 years, and always worked hard to provide for his family.
He is survived by his wife Kathleen Burks of 46 years, and their three sons, David Afonso and partner Tammy Word of Midwest City; Don Afonso and wife Savina of Oklahoma City; and James Burks of Oklahoma City. He is also survived by 5 grandchildren, Daussin Afonso, Jamie Burks, Austin Burks, Quentin Burgess, and Marianna Afonso. In addition, he is survived by two sisters; Carol Schuette of Berea, Ohio, and Barbara King of Georgia, two brothers; Robert Burks of Ewa Beach, Hawaii, and John Burks of Edmonds, Washington.
He is preceded in death by his father Archie Burks, his mother and stepfather, Anna Lee and Jimmie Miller, along with his son Christopher Brian Burks. His sense of humor and laughter will be greatly missed by all of those who loved him. One of things people will miss most is that he would always say “You be careful out there”, instead of goodbye, see you later.
Visitation services will be held from 4 to 8pm on Tuesday, April 20, 2021, at Bill Eisenhour on 29th Street in Del City. A memorial will be held at a later date not determined.
