Fern McCorkle Nov. 4, 1918-April 20, 2019 Oklahoma City. Beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, stepmother and servant of our Lord, Geneva “Fern” McCorkle went home to Jesus at the age of 100 on Saturday, April 20, 2019 in Stigler, OK.
Born Geneva Fern Casady outside of Verden, OK on Nov. 4, 1918 to Clinton Jay Casady & Allie Fern (Coffey) Casady. She later moved closer to her grandparents near Guthrie, OK where she later graduated high school in 1936. She united with the Primitive Baptist Church in 1935. After high school, Fern attended Pearl Hazleton Beauty School and graduated in 1937. She worked many years as a beautician in the N.W. OKC area. In 1940 Fern married Edward Davis Fields and made their home in the N.W. OKC area as well. Ed was called to duty during WWII and Fern went to work at Tinker AFB to do her part as a “Rosie the Riveter” helping build airplanes for the war. On June 27, 1947 they were blessed with a son, Steve Keith Fields. She also shared a special bond with a stepson, James Ellis Fields. Ed passed away in 1984.
Fern was fortunate to meet widower, Grady McCorkle and they wed in the Fall of 1987. This loving relationship afforded them both a chance to travel throughout the U.S. together, attending out of state church meetings, family reunions with the “Fields Family” in Kentucky as well as the “McCorkle Family” at Moss Lake every 4th of July. They saw many creations and places throughout the country. They enjoyed 13 glorious years together before Grady’s departure to heaven in 2001.
In later years Fern moved into Steve and Espie’s home, not so much for Steve to look after her, but for her to look after Steve. Late in 2018 with Steve’s sudden health issues, Fern moved to Stigler, OK to be closer to her Grandson Keith & his family. Even so, she made the trip back to OKC occasionally including her 100th birthday party on Nov. 4, 2018 at the Bethlehem Primitive Baptist Church where many friends and family celebrated her 100 years of life achievements.
Fern is survived by son, Steve Fields (Sr) of the home, grandsons S.Keith Fields & wife Traci and great grandchildren Caleb & wife Jaiee, Conner, and Carrigan all of Stigler; Eric Fields & wife Kathy and children Chad, Rebecka and Scott of Oak Harbor, WA; James Fields & wife Debbie of Bend, OR and their adult children; Curtis Fields & wife Patti of Denver, CO and their adult children; Jana Thompson & husband David of Deurne, Belgium with their adult daughter Christina Cooper & husband Nick of OKC.
Fern was loved, cherished and survived by many McCorkle step children, grandchildren and great grandchildren too numerous to mention.
Funeral service will be held at the Bethlehem Primitive Baptist Church, 9010 S. Fairview Dr., OKC, OK 73159 on Thursday, April 25th @2:00 p.m. with Interment to follow at the Bethany Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Bethlehem Primitive Baptist Church.
