Erma Vawter

Erma Louise Vawter passed away peacefully at home in OKC on June 17, 2022. She was born at home to Ross & Irma “Gertrude” Smith in OKC on October 31, 1932. She lived in many places while following her husband as he served in the Navy and construction work. She worked as an Admissions Supervisor at Deaconess Hospital. In her time off and after retirement she enjoyed traveling the US and abroad with her husband, children and grandkids. She loved sewing, listening and singing to old style gospel hymns. She was a devoted wife, mother, Granny, and sister. She also loved being a foster mom to many children. She was a member at Emmaus Baptist Church and a member of the VFW Women’s Auxiliary. Erma is survived by her daughter Sharon Coursey of OKC, 5 grandchildren, 7 great grandchildren, 2 great-great-grandchildren, a son-in-law and brother-in-law. She was preceded in death by her husband of 53 years Oscar Jr., her daughter Shirley Troyer, an infant son, a son-in-law, a great-grandson, 4 brothers, 4 sisters and her parents.

Family will receive friends 3-5pm Tuesday at Sunny Lane Funeral Home with viewing available 9am-5pm. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, June 22, 2022 at 2pm at Emmaus Baptist Church. Interment will follow at Sunny Lane Cemetery in Del City.
