She was born on June 18, 1939, in Bronte, Texas, to A.B. Finley and Ines (Kazy). Her family moved to Oklahoma when she was five years old and she grew up on a farm near Okmulgee. Edith was baptized into Christ in 1954 in a nearby pond.
Edith married the love of her life, Bill Whitfield, on February 10, 1956, and they had three children, Cynthia, Loretta, and Billy. Edith has fulfilled the role of a wife, mother, and homemaker since their marriage.
She enjoyed watching old movies and meeting new people. She loved to sing and even sung in the Oklahoma Opry with Larry Kent’s Band, The Oklahoma Hayride, Soonery Country Jubilee, Tri City Country Show Case, and 89er Opry.
Edith is preceded in death by her parents, A.B. and Ines; and her loving husband, Billy.
Leaving to cherish her memory are her children, Cynthia Newport and Danny, Loretta Whitfield and Mike, and Billy Don Whitfield; grandchildren, Cassidy and Mark, Cortney and Tony, Elizabeth, and Mary Ann; great-grandchildren, Callie, Weston, Ethan, Elias, and Nathan; as well as a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
The family would like to express their heartfelt gratitude to the staff and nurses with Choice Hospice, who cared so graciously for Edith.
A visitation for Edith will be held Wednesday, September 25, 2024, from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Bill Eisenhour Funeral Home, 5005 SE 29th Street, Del City, OK 73115. A funeral service will occur Thursday, September 26, 2024, at 2:00 PM with committal to follow at Sunny Lane Funeral Home & Cemetery, 4000 SE 29th St, Del City, OK 73115.
