January 16, 1935 - November 7, 2020
Dortha Jean was born on January 16, 1935 to Harden Lee and Alice Beatrice Boyd in Muskogee Oklahoma. She was the only daughter in the middle of two boys, Sonny, her older brother and Billy to come much later. Dortha accepted Christ as her saviour at a young age. She graduated from John Marshall High School in 1952. Later that same year, Dortha met the love of her life while visiting her brother Sonny in the Navy where he was stationed in Pensacola Florida. He was a short skinny and very feisty sailor named Billy Ray Blalock. He casually mentioned to shipmate and future brother in law Sonny upon seeing Dortha, “I’m going to marry her.” And he did just that on February 22, 1953.
On March 18, 1954, they welcomed their only child, a son, Billy Ray Blalock, Jr.
Dortha served as a pastor’s wife for a little over 52 years until her beloved Bill passed in June of 2005.
Her greatest ministry was being the head cook at Fall’s Creek every summer until she was no longer physically able to go. She loved kids and would serenade them each morning at camp with some crazy song that would make some laugh and some cry. She was a Godly woman with an unwavering passion for Christ.
Dortha worked at the family’s company Kar Glo serving as a bookkeeper and many other roles as needed for over 40 years.
After Bill died, Dortha worked for Dave and Sandy Easely in one capacity or another for over 15 years before retiring in May of 2018 at the age of 83!
She is preceded in death by her parents, Harden and Beatrice Boyd, husband Billy Ray Blalock Sr, Brother Sonny Boyd, nephew Brian “Beartrack” Boyd, and great niece, Brooklyn Boyd Selman.
