Denise Charmaine Thompson left this earth on March 31st, 2023. Denise was born on January 22nd, 1952, to Frank and Delores Vavera. She was the oldest sister to Glenda, Andrea, Mark, Laurie, and Jeff. Denise never had any children of her own, but loved every one of her nieces and nephews as if they were her own.
Denise worked over 30 years as a cafeteria manager for OKCPS. During her career, she worked at various schools before finally spending most of her years at Sequoyah Elementary. Sequoyah would always hold a special place in her heart. She loved the students and staff. She took pride in her work and loved her job. Denise remembered so many students and would always ask about them.
Denise enjoyed crocheting, sewing, mysteries, crafts, and OU football. She spent countless hours crocheting blankets, scarfs, and hats to give away to loved ones. She made each family member a stocking for Christmas. It was embroidered with their name and a unique fabric. Denise loved OU football. On any given Saturday, you could hear Denise scream or celebrate miles away. Denise believed in “Sooner Magic”.
Denise was one of the most selfless, kind, and loving persons. Even in her final days, she made sure everyone else was doing okay. She was known to put everyone’s needs before her own. She loved her family so much.
Denise is preceded in death by her parents, her brothers Mark and Jeff, numerous aunts and uncles, as well as cousins.
She is survived by her sisters Glenda, Andrea, Laurie, as well as brother-in-law Gary. Nieces and nephews: Stacy, David, Scott, Shelby, Shane, Zach, and Kyle. Grand nephews and niece Ian, Blake, Parker, Ava, and Braydon.
Denise’s life was spent loving people. She will be greatly missed by her family and friends.
A visitation for Denise will be held Wednesday, April 5, 2023 from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Sunny Lane Funeral Home, 4000 Se 29th Street, Del City, OK 73115. A memorial service will occur Thursday, April 6, 2023 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at Sunny Lane Funeral Home.
