Most of the early years were spent in Homestead, El Reno and Cleo Springs where he graduated High School. As a young man he was known for his musical abilities, especially playing the piano, violin, and coronet. Following high school, Claude moved to Midwest City and served in the U.S. Army during the latter days of WWII.
After separation he continued his career at Tinker AFB lasting 40+ years. He retired as the Civilian Personnel Manager of the ALC in 1986. Throughout his life he treasured his status as a Veteran, and proud alumni of OU. He was committed to and volunteered his time in the following organizations: TFCU/Board of Directors, Tinker Branch of the YMCA Board of Directors, Volunteer for MWC Regional Medical Center, N.A.R.F.E., Masonic Lodge (532) of MWC, MWC Civilian Police Academy Alumni Board, and many, many more.
In 1949 he married the love of his life, Shirley Bowdich and they remained together until her passing in 2000. Claude loved to travel whether it was bus trips with the Sunday school class, or cruises to other parts of the world. He was always anticipating a new adventure. He is survived by his sister, Joan Tamage; children, Jerry Humble (Anne Woodling), Deborah Stanford (Calvin); grandchildren, Ryan Humble (Kaitlin), Whitney Stanford (Rachel), Gina and Lauren Humble, and Bethany Bearden (Chase).
He was extremely proud of his grandchildren and their varied accomplishments. He especially loved seeing them achieve their education and career goals. Claude was a devoted husband, father and grandfather and was always dedicated to his faith and his church family for the last 40+ years at Meadowood Baptist Church. He will forever be known for his generosity, ready smile and will be greatly missed by his family and everyone who ever knew him.
The family will be receiving guests on Thursday, October 30, 2014 from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the Bill Eisenhour Southeast Funeral Home.
