Betty Ann Hernandez (Betty Boop), age 52, of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma passed away peacefully on May 30, 2023 after a hard fought battle with terminal cancer. She was surrounded by her loving husband, Santos aka “Hulio” and two beautiful daughters; Julia Valley and Lauren Hernandez.
Betty was born in Mckees Rocks, Pennsylvania on October 30, 1970 to Stanley and Grace Kosol. She graduated from Sto-Rox High School Class of 1988. Upon graduation Betty enlisted in the United States Navy July 18, 1988 where she served 8 years as an Aviation Administrationman (AZ) attaining the rank of Petty Officer Second Class (E-5) and was Honorably Discharged on October 29, 1996.
It was during her military service where she met and eagerly stalked her future husband Santos aka “Hulio” in Norfolk, Virginia in 1990. Honestly, it was the other way around, but it was always a great way to break the ice when they met other people. They were officially married in on November 24, 1990. Betty and Hulio were married 32 years and went on to have two beautiful daughters, Julia Valley and Lauren Hernandez.
Upon her military discharge she supported her husband’s military career until she began her own successful career starting in 2005. She was as a DoD Federal Employee at Tinker AFB, Oklahoma, formerly working at DLA and 422 SCMS/GUMD as a Supply Planner. She was medically retired in May 2023 due to her illness.
Betty had a passion RV camping, visiting Meadow Park at Lake Tenkiller, planting flowers in her flower beds, her pets and loved a glass of Pinot Noir. Her true passion was decorating her home for the different seasons throughout the year, especially Christmas and Thanksgiving. Above all she just loved to be surrounded by her family and friends. There were many special moments throughout her life. Two of those precious moments were recent; one-being told she was going to be a grandmother while she was in the hospital and the second; was seeing her grand baby Olivia Ann via an ultrasound. There were many priceless moments, but for her these two made her smile and gave her hope to continue her daily battle with cancer.
Betty was preceded in death by her Father, Stanley Kosol and Mother, Grace Kosol. She is survived by her sisters Linda Hippensteel, Barbara Kosol, Julie Walker, and Brother Albert Kosol.
Viewing will be held Sunny Lane Funeral Home and Cemetery, 4000 SE 29th Street Del City, Oklahoma 73115 from 10:00 AM to 2:00 PM, Service to follow. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to St Anthony’s Hospital SSM Cancer Institute, at: givetosaints.com in honor of Betty Ann Hernandez.
