Rosemarie was born on August 7, 1932 in Brooklyn, New York. She attended St. Brendan’s High School and studied the piano. After graduating from the Parsons School of Design, she worked as an advertising designer and was Assistant Art Director at Columbia University. She met Dominick Rando while riding on the Subway to her Grandmother’s house. On one of their early dates while driving her home, Dominick stopped at a light and when he leaned in to kiss her, bells rang! Quite literally as they were in front of St. Patrick’s Cathedral and it was the top of the hour! They married in 1955 and remained inseparable until Dominick’s passing in 2008.
In their 53 years together Rosemarie and Dominick shared various interests. They enjoyed camping, hunting, working on theater productions, and traveling. Rosemarie was also involved in her community. In New York, she was on the Board of Directors for the Lion’s Auxiliary, was a Director at a hospital Auxiliary, and began a Camp Fire Girls division in Nassau County where she was a group leader for ten years and a member of the Board of Directors.
Rosemarie worked as the office manager in Dominick’s dental practice. When Dominick retired from dentistry in 1979 they moved from New York to Florida. It was in Florida that Rosemarie discovered her love of theater. She began working in community theater, starting in props, and graduating to Stage Manager and eventually Director. She took great pleasure in directing and writing skits. She often wrote skits that were performed at family and community events.
Since Rosemarie and Dominick spent many years traveling both domestically and abroad she decided to write of their exploits. Her book “Memoirs of High Heels and Suitcases” was published in 2006.
Rosemarie is survived by her three children; Dyana (Tom) of Fort Lauderdale, Joanna (Jeff) of Boca Raton and Guy of Ocean, New Jersey, two grandchildren; Nicholas and Josh, and three great grandchildren; Ian, Angelina, and Gianna.
