Dear Bachety Family,

It was 1970 or 71 when I  was a 16 year old aspiring student looking to get involved in politics.

I don’t remember how it happened, but somehow I was lucky enough to wind up at your house in Deer Park working on your Moms campaign!  Oh the fun we had, oh the excitement of seeing your Mom elected to the Town Board!  And how fortunate was I to learn politics from a woman who was ethical and principled!  Later on in 1974 when I was elected to the North Babylon Board of Ed I carried those lessons with me and they continue to guide me to this day! 
I so fondly remember the 3am visits to the diner, the outings with the boys putting up Bachety signs, riding in the car with your Dad  as he told me that he never beeped at kids playing in the streets, he just waived at them!

My heart hurts old friends, I loved your Mom more than I can say and her indelible impression will be with me all the days of my life.
My thoughts and wishes for comfort and peace are with you at this time and thank you all for those wonderful memories and times when we were in America when it was truly great, due in large part to people like your Mom.

Sending my deepest sympathy to the Bachety family. I worked for Sondra when she was in the Suffolk County Legislature as her secretary. I was getting back into the workforce after being  home raising my children. She gave me a chance and I will always be grateful. It was a privilege to work for her. She was a lovely person but a tough politician. May your memories be a blessing and may she rest in peace.

Sondra, You were truly an extraordinary woman, radiating intelligence, wisdom, and elegance. I will deeply cherish the memories of our many uplifting conversations and your inspiring presence at the Bristal, along with Mr. Finny and your wonderful family. Thank you for sharing your kindness and touching the lives of those around you.
