Steven Marion Fletcher, M.D. age 57, of Decatur, Alabama, passed away suddenly on July 9, 2015. A Memorial Service will be at St. John’s Episcopal Church in Decatur on Tuesday, July 14, 2015, at 3:00 p.m. The Reverend Evan Garner will officiate and Roselawn Funeral Home directing. The family will receive friends in the church parlor two hours prior to the Memorial Service.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Gaston Cassel Fletcher and Nell Brown Fletcher. Survivors include his wife, Anne Thornton Fletcher, two sons, Forrest Steven Fletcher and Hunter Moss Fletcher, brother William (Bill) Cassel Fletcher (Susan), nephew Jeremy Blake Fletcher (Melissa), niece Jessica Blair Fletcher and other extended family. He was married for 25 years to the late Dr. Rebekah Jo Moss-Fletcher.
Dr. Fletcher was born in Greenwood, Mississippi. He received his Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Mississippi graduating cum laude with majors in Zoology and Chemistry, and minors in English and Latin. He received his Doctor of Medicine degree from the University of Mississippi School of Medicine in 1983. He was the recipient of the 1983 Louisiana/Mississippi Ophthalmology/Otolaryngology Society Award.
He completed his residency at Tulane Medical Center in New Orleans, Louisiana, in Otolaryngology Head and Neck Surgery, and Charity Hospital of New Orleans, Eye, Ear, Nose, and Throat Hospital of New Orleans, and Alton Ochsner Foundation Hospital of New Orleans. He completed his Internship and Residency at Tulane University Affiliated Hospitals and was the recipient of the 1985 Touro Infirmary General Surgery Resident of the Year Award. He was board certified by the American Board of Otolaryngology Head and Neck Surgery in 1988. He was a member of the Morgan County Medical Society. He practiced adult and pediatric otolaryngology at the Ear, Nose, & Throat Clinic of Decatur.
Steve was a compassionate physician and skilled surgeon. Steve was a wonderful story teller and loved to laugh. He had a special gift for words. He had a deep and abiding faith. He was an avid outdoor enthusiast. Steve often went fresh and saltwater fishing and small and big game hunting. He was an accomplished artist in watercolors and pen and ink drawings. He loved his alma mater Ole Miss.
He also leaves behind his beloved Jack Russell Terrier, Zeke.

Moss, Olivia Carney, Sue McKee, Geri Elliott, Julie Hubbert, Mr. and Mrs. JimmyRay Smith, Mr. and Mrs. Ken Schuppert, Mr. and Mrs. Robert Bell, Mr. and Mrs. David Rahm, Jr., Dorothy Rogers, Mr. and Mrs. Billy Richards, employees of Decatur-Morgan Hospital Surgical and Emergency Departments, employees of Surgery Center of Decatur, members of the Cut-Off Hunting Club, members of the Saturday Night Supper Club, and many other special friends and colleagues in the community.
