Funeral Service for Shirley Compton Terry, 87, of Tanner, will be held Thursday, May 27, 2021 at Roselawn Funeral Home Chapel. Visitation will be at Roselawn 12:00 Noon – 2:00 p.m. and the memorial service will begin at 2:00 p.m. She will be interred at Roselawn Mausoleum following the service.
Shirley went to be with the Lord on May 23, 2021. She was born January 29, 1934 to the late Leslie Denver and Magnolia “Nolia” Grant Compton. She was a long-time resident of Decatur, AL, and the Fairview Community.
She was graduated from Decatur High School (’52) with Honors. After graduation, she married the love of her life, Marvin J. Terry, Jr., who preceded her in death in 2014. Marvin and Shirley were married 60 years and those years were filled with church, family, friends, travel, and work. She was a loving wife, mother, and grandmother. Shirley was instrumental in opening the Decatur branch of Ford Credit in 1962 and was a dedicated Ford employee for 30 years. She was an accomplished pianist and organist and played both instruments for church from her early teens until well into her 80s. She was a member of River City Baptist Church.
Shirley is survived by her son, Jay M. Terry (Ellen); daughter, Renee Terry Wall; grandchildren Jaclyn Terry, Jeffrey Terry, and Evan Wall; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. Additionally, Shirley was preceded in death by her siblings: Marjorie Smith (Raymond), William “Bill” Compton (Jessie), Robert L. “Bob” Compton (Doris), and James “Jimmy” Compton.
