Peggy Ruth White Miles, 87, of Decatur, Alabama, passed away on January 30, 2024. Visitation will be on Tuesday, February 6, 2024 from 11:00 AM-1:00 PM at Jacksonburg Church of Christ, Florence, Alabama. The Celebration of Life Service to follow at 1:00 PM, at the church. With Garry Gooch officating. She will be laid to rest at Jacksonburg Church of Christ Cemetery.
She is survived by daughter, Wendy (Dennis) Mitchell, of Huntsville, AL, son, Greg Miles (Sonya), of Prattville, AL, grandchildren, Jeremy (Ashley) Mitchell, of Enterprise, Alabama, Jennifer (Joshua) Dobson, of Huntsville, AL, Gregory Miles, of Prattville, AL and Houston (Rebecca) Miles of Hoover, AL, great-grandchildren, Connor, Paisley, Aubrey and Cameron, sister-in-law, Joy (Jack) Cabler, of Gardendale, AL, and brother-in-law John Miles of Florence, AL, including cousins, numerous longtime friends and her special friends at Cedar View Assisted Living in Killen, AL and Morningside of Decatur Assisted Living, Decatur, AL.
She is preceded in death by husband of 55 years, Houston Troy Miles, Jr., of Montgomery, AL, parents Leon and Opal White of Athens, AL, and brother, Billy Clyde White.
She was born August 24, 1936 in Rogersville, Alabama. She and her family moved to the Florence area in 1951 (9th grade) and she began attending Mars Hill Bible School, where she met her future husband, Troy. After graduation, they were married on July 25, 1954, at Stoney Point Church of Christ. Troy’s job required him to change territories numerous times throughout their marriage. However, they finally settled down in Montgomery, Alabama, in 1970, where she was a resident for 52 years. While there, Peggy and Troy were faithful members of the University Church of Christ. Peggy was the payroll manager at Colonial Banc Group for 28 years and retired in August 1998. After retirement, they became members of the Sojourners, where they traveled extensively in their motor home for the Churches of Christ. Peggy moved to Killen, Alabama in 2022. In April of 2023, Peggy moved to Decatur, Alabama, to be closer to her daughter.
Peggy loved to socialize and worked constantly until her last day on her family Ancestry.
Paul Bearers are her grandsons and great grandson, Jeremy Mitchell, Gregory Miles, Houston Miles, Joshua Dobson and Connor Dobson.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Mars Hill Bible School, 698 Cox Creek Parkway, Florence, Alabama 35630.
