Rose was born on October 10, 1931in Dickenson County, VA to Carl and Zelda Marie Willis. Early in her adult life, like most of her generation, Rose worked tirelessly in support of the war effort assembling aircraft - just like the famous “Rosie the Riveter”, while her husband, Gene served in the US Navy. Her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren remember her as a loving, nurturing, and accepting matriarch who exuded pride in their achievements - no matter how large or how small.
Rose was accomplished at quilting and often made unique quilts to celebrate occasions. One she was particularly proud of is on display at the memorial for the Sago coal miners, who died during a mining accident.
She was an active and dedicated member of the Wesley Memorial United Methodist Church. She often volunteered at a variety of activities throughout her life, most recently at The Salvation Army Food Bank.
