Larry James Clontz, 79, passed away peacefully at his home with family by his side on Saturday, March 2nd, 2024, after a remarkable battle with cancer. He leaves behind a loving community of family and friends.
Larry loved the mountains of Western North Carolina, as well as the North Carolina coast, and his adopted home of Decatur, Alabama. Larry loved history and archaeology, and had a passion for gardening.
Born July 24th, 1944, in Marion, North Carolina, Larry was the youngest of three children of the late James Robert Clontz and Mary Jo Blalock Clontz. Larry graduated from Marion High School, attended Mars Hill College, and then entered the United States Air Force. After he was honorably discharged from the Air Force, he worked as a jeweler, and for many years was an audiologist until his retirement.
Larry was preceded in death by his first wife, Pamela Sue Groves Clontz and son, Robert Clontz.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Angela Clontz; daughter, Wendy Hamilton (husband, Mark), step daughter, Lauren Reist (husband, Clint); grandchildren, Hunter Hamilton (wife, Sidney), Megan Hamilton, and Caroline Reist; brother, Eugene Robert Clontz (wife, Eva), sister, Judith Clontz Morosani (husband, George), and numerous nieces and nephews.
A graveside funeral service in celebration of Larry’s life will be held on Tuesday, March 5th, 2024, at 2:00 p.m. Roselawn Funeral Home is assisting the family.
