Kenneth Carter Stefanc, born November 16, 1948, in Waukegan, Illinois, peacefully passed away on July 1, 2024. He was the second son of Joseph Frank Stefanc and Sylvia Marie Stefanc, nee Birtic. Ken's life was marked by service, love, and a deep commitment to his family and community.
After graduating from Warren Township High School, Ken followed his father's proud tradition by enlisting in the U.S. Navy. During his service, he learned his skills in computer technology. In May of 1970, Ken married Nancy Gibson, and together they built a life filled with love and shared adventures until Nancy's passing in 2018.
Ken was a dedicated professional, earning his Associates Degree from the College of Lake County and forging a career in IT that spanned decades. He and Nancy lived in places including Gurnee, Lindenhurst, IL; Madrid, IA; and Decatur, AL. Ken was also active in his community being involved with the Lindenhurst Park District including coach and umpire for women’s softball. He also volunteered with the Decatur Police Department in various capacities and was a crossing guard in Decatur, a job he enjoyed immensely.
Beyond his professional achievements, Ken was a compassionate soul with a deep affection for dogs. Known for his kind heart, he rescued and found homes for numerous dogs over the years. In his later years, Ken could often be found with treats in hand, eager to greet any passing dog.
Ken's wishes were for a simple farewell. He will be cremated, and his ashes will be laid to rest alongside his father and beloved wife. At this time, no memorial services are planned. In honor of Ken's memory, the family kindly requests that donations be made to the Morgan County (AL) Humane Center in his name.
Ken is survived by his loving sister Judith (Rodney) Mitchell, his son Scott (Heidi) Stefanc, Nancy's daughters Dawn Boren and Traci (Matt) Parks, and his cherished grandchildren Michael Boren, Sydney Parks, Nate Parks, and Gareth Stefanc. His memory will forever live on in the hearts of all who knew him, remembering his kindness, dedication, and unwavering love for his family and furry friends alike.
