John Randall "Randy" Hovis, 55, formerly of Decatur, died Friday, July 22, 2011, at his home. Visitation will be Thursday, July 28, 2011, from 10 to 11 a.m. at Roselawn Funeral Home. The service will immediately follow with Dr. Rob Jackson officiating.
He was born August 15, 1955, to Howard and Barbara Hovis. He proudly served 20 years with the U.S. Navy at various ports worldwide as chief petty officer. He was currently employed as an electrical engineer with Northrop Grumman Ship Building. He was a member of Central Baptist Church.
He is survived by his parents, his devoted wife of 26 years, Donna; two daughters, Sherri Phelps and husband, Fred, of Felt Mills, N.Y., and Brandi Thomas and husband, Wyse, of Mt. Vernon, Ill.; son, Chris Davis of Chesapeake, Va.; five grandchildren, Dakota, Haley Grace, Christiana, Jacob and Jordan; sister, Paula Sutton and husband, Ralph, of Decatur; brother, Chuck Hovis and wife, Beverly, of Hartselle; and many loving nieces, nephews and cousins.
Pallbearers will be Todd Sutton, Wade Sutton, Shane Hovis, John Rogers, Steve Rogers and Dusty Slaten.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to the American Cancer Society .
