Johnny, a lifelong resident of Decatur, was born on February 4, 1949 to Charlie Lee and Bessie Anna-Margaret Johnson. He and his five siblings, Jewel Dean Puckett, Betty Jean Seamons, Louise Higdon, Carolyn Hanners, and Charles Ray Johnson, maintained close relationships throughout their lives.
Johnny attended Decatur High School. He was a painter by trade but had worked many years in the restaurant business. Johnny was best known for having a generous heart and was always willing to help others in whatever way he could. Most of all, he was a man who loved his family. His favorite place to vacation was Panama City Beach, FL. Johnny was a member of Sixteenth Avenue Baptist Church in Decatur.
Johnny is survived by daughters Kim Johnson of Madison and Cindy Kennedy of Decatur, grandson Micah Persons of Madison, sister Carolyn Hanners of Hartselle, and a number of beloved cousins, nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, and friends, all of whom he loved dearly.
Visitation will be held from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. on Friday, May 28th at Roselawn Funeral Home. The funeral service will follow at 4:00 p.m. in the chapel at Roselawn Funeral Home. Interment will be at Roselawn Cemetery.
Special recognition and appreciation is given to Johnny’s sister, Carolyn Hanners, for selflessly and tirelessly attending to his comfort and care during the last year of his life, and for making sure he was surrounded by love and companionship in what was a very difficult time for him. Her kindness and dedication will always be remembered.
