James Odell Marble, of Decatur, AL, passed away on Tuesday, August 1, 2023. Visitation will be on Saturday, August 5, 2023, from 2PM - 3PM at Roselawn Funeral Home. The Celebration of Life service will begin at 3PM with Joe McKaig officiating. He will be laid to rest at Roselawn Cemetery.
James is survived by his wife of 62 years, Margaret Marble; son, James K. Marble of Auburn; daughters, Caroline McCullough of Madison and Rebecca Daugherty of North Carolina; son-in-law, Chris Daugherty of North Carolina; grandchildren, Savannah Brooks, Nathan Marble, Carly Marble, Noah Marble, Elijah Daugherty, and Olivia Daugherty; brother, Ronald Marble; sister-in-law, Carol Marble of Mississippi.
He was preceded in death by his father, James Edward Marble; mother, Dorothy Marble; and brother, Charles Marble.
James was a graduate of Mississippi State University where he received a Bachelor of Science at the School of Engineering. He also obtained a Master of Science in Engineering Management at Florida Institute of Technology. He served in the Marine Reserves before he started his career as an Industrial Engineer and retired from the Army Missile Command. James was faithful in his service for the Lord. He was a longtime member of Decatur Baptist Church where he served on mission trips and as a leader for Celebrate Recovery. James was also a member of the Gideons for 30 years.
He loved Jesus, bringing others to know Jesus, his local church, family, photography, wood working, tinkering, adventure, traveling, camping, hiking, chess, marksmanship, riding motorcycles, books, a good pen, a good knife, science fiction, computers, technology, machines, playing games, orange juice, peaches, a good homegrown tomato, ice cream, pecan pie, sandwiches, finding a good deal, asking questions and conversation. He shared his joy and appreciation of what he loved with everyone.
Pallbearers will be Nathan Marble, Noah Marble, Elijah Daugherty, Chris Daugherty, Ryan McConnell, and Scottie Davis.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Gideons, Decatur Baptist Celebrate Recovery, or Save a Life.
