Evelyn Swanner Marsh, aged 95, a cherished pillar of the community, passed away peacefully on March 28, 2025 at Decatur Morgan Hospital after a brief illness surrounded by her loving family. Born in 1929 into the caring arms of her parents, James Herman Swanner, Sr. and Mary Jane Pressnell Swanner, Evelyn lived a life marked by love, resilience, and devotion.
A lifelong member of Belmor Baptist Church, Evelyn's faith was profound and quietly woven into the fabric of her daily life. She found joy in the simple pleasures of reading a good book and cooking meals that would gather the family around the table, sharing stories and creating memories.
Evelyn was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Rex Marsh, her adoring grandson, Shawn Sandlin, her parents, and four siblings. Her legacy of love continues through her daughters, Linda Baker (Dan), Sue Sandlin (Larry), Kathy Sandlin (Harry), and Pam Kennedy (Dickey); a brother, Herman Swanner Jr.; and a sister, Doris Henderson. She was a proud grandmother to eight grandchildren, thirteen great-grandchildren, and four great-great-grandchildren, all of whom brought immense joy and pride to her life.
Evelyn's family and friends will gather to honor her life and legacy at Roselawn Funeral Home, with visitation on Tuesday, April 1, 2025, from 12 PM to 2PM with Celebration of Life Service to follow at 2:00 P.M. with Bro. Keith Crouch and Bro. Wayne Bynum officiating. Interment will follow at Decatur City Cemetery.
Pallbearers include Jeff Henderson, Jimmy Swanner, Tim Sulcer, Chad Barrett, Alan Marsh, and Mike Henderson. Honorary pallbearers are Reese Barrett, Michael Barrett, Cooper Baker, Fin Baker-Wade, Will Beddingfield, and Chad Henderson and Jimmy Marsh, Kay Baker, and Heath Baker.
Evelyn's life was a testament to the enduring strength of family and the deep comfort of faith. She will be deeply missed by all who knew her, leaving behind a legacy that will continue to inspire generations.
