Born on October 5, 1923 to the late Adam P. and Dosha Eve Boaz Capps in Dickson, TN she was the family’s tenth child and was not expected to live past the age of seventeen due to having rheumatic fever at a very young age.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Edward “Ed” Meinhardt of Decatur; ten siblings, Judy Christiansen and Maggie Lawson of Nashville, TN; Ruth Nipper, Fannie Baker, Nettie Jones, Annie Bracey, and Mary Byrum, Thomas Capps, Jesse Capps and David Capps of Dickson; step-granddaughter, JuliAnna Smith of Decatur and son-in-law, Ed Baker of Rome, GA.
Survivors include her daughter, Anita Gill Dorman (Andrew) of Huntsville; grandchildren, Jason Taylor of Madison, AL and Kristin Taylor West (Eric) of Cartersville, GA; step-grandchildren Emily Smith Carlson (Ben) of Hartselle and Jonathan Smith (Ashley) of Florence; step-daughter Regina Meinhardt Smith (John), of Decatur and great-grandchildren, Austin, Brayden, Bryant, CharLee and Brantlyn. She is also survived by many devoted, nieces, nephews and extended family members.
Christine was the heart of her family, a woman of virtue and grace, living a life characterized by loyalty and love. She had the heart of a servant and the patience of a saint. After graduating from North Nashville High School, she trained and worked in the dental and medical fields for more than forty years. She was an excellent seamstress and enjoyed fashioning outfits for her young grandchildren into her 90’s. She also enjoyed travel, gardening, reading, camping and making sure her loved ones were well nourished. Her loving commitment to her family and community was a glorious reflection of her devotion to Christ. She was an active member of Westminster Presbyterian Church in Decatur for over 30 years.
Visitation will be at Roselawn Funeral Home Sunday, January 15, 2023 from 1:00 pm till 2:00 pm
followed by a graveside service at Decatur City Cemetery at 2:30pm with Rev. Peggy McClure officiating.
Pallbearers will be Jason Taylor, Jonathan Smith, Ben Carlson, John Smith, Eric West and Andy Dorman.
The family would like to acknowledge and thank the dedicated staff of Huntsville Hospital Hospice and Family Care Center for the kindness and compassion bestowed on our beloved “Granny” and all who loved her.
