Carol McMillan Gragg, 74, resident of Decatur AL. passed away Saturday March 6, 2021 at her home. Daughter of Waldon Wade McMillan and Hattsie Cunningham Beasley, she was born on September 19, 1946 in Decatur where she lived and worked her entire life. She is preceded in death by her mother and father, her sister Sandra McMillan Cox, and her husband Lewis Dean Gragg. She is survived by her daughter Shannon Brooks Hopkins, and her stepdaughters Julie Gragg Cox and Missy Gragg. She is the proud Nana to Grant and Caroline Hopkins. She is also Granny Carol to Adam Heffner, and Lizzie Walden. Carol graduated from Decatur High School. She put herself through college while working full time and managing her family. She earned a Bachelor’s degree in Business from Athens State University in 1992. She graduated with all A’s and one B through her ten year educational endeavor. She used her college experience as an inspiration of hope to her daughter and grandchildren. She worked for many years and retired from BASF in Decatur as the Human Resource Representative.
Carol and Lewis were avid bowlers and bowled in leagues in Decatur for many years. She and Lewis traveled several times to include the Alaska and the Caribbean. She and daughter Shannon even took an adventurous trip to Los Angeles where she just happened to meet Cher while window-shopping on Rodeo Drive. In her spare time, Carol would cross-stitch and assemble photo albums of her children and grandchildren. She knitted blankets for her grandchildren. She was a fervent reader and adored watching Hallmark and Nicholas Sparks movies with granddaughter Caroline as well as watching Auburn football. She was a frequent fan of her grandchildren’ sporting events ranging from football, baseball, softball, basketball, and soccer. Carol and friends would regularly have Friday breakfasts in retirement and catch up on each other’s family events.
The family would like to extend its warmest gratitude and love to longtime friends and next-door neighbors of Carol and Lewis, Leroy and Trecy Henderson. With whom Carol greatly loved and cherished. The family would also like to warmly thank Carol’s sweet caregivers for the past eight months; Dawn, Lewanna, Rebecca, Kandace, MacKenzie, and Lysa. Whose care, love, and prayers gave the greatest comfort to Carol and the family.
Funeral arrangements will be at Roselawn Funeral Home, Decatur, Alabama with Pastor Justin McAlpin. Visitation at 11:00 a.m. and chapel service at 12:00 p.m. on Thursday March 11, 2021.
