Billy Gene Perry, of Decatur, passed away January 20, 2017, at the age of 82. Visitation will be held Sunday, January 29, from 1:00 p.m. until 2:00 p.m. at Roselawn Funeral Home, with a Celebration of Life at 2:00 p.m. Charles Maples will be officiating. Burial will follow the service at Roselawn Cemetery.
Mr. Perry was preceded in death by his wife of forty years, Carolyn Cage Perry; parents, Jessie and Mary Perry; son, Laurence Perry; brother, Charles Perry; sister, Geneva McMeans; and great-granddaughter, Jasmine Oliver.
He is survived by his daughters, Debbie Schrimsher, of Athens, Pam Locke, of Toney, Beth Redman, of Tanner, and Dee Jackson, of Decatur; brother, Bonnie Perry, of Decatur; grandchildren, Wendy Bailey, Candy Hill, Marsha (Bug) Neely, Nick Hill, Jessica Reeves, Amber Miller, Jade Oliver, Jacob Louis, and Joel Britnell; step-grandchild, Michelle Reeves; great-grandchildren, Alex Ritterbush, Isaac Ritterbush, Auston Ritterbush, Cody Neely, Tyler Neely, Logan Dyess, Hannah Dyess, Gavin Miller, Ashley Christopher, Olivia Christopher, Eli Reeves, Ariana Gray, Aubrey Oliver, Henley Britnell, and Ari Britnell.
Mr. Perry, A.K.A. Mr. Bill, started his life as a paperboy and working at City Park Florist. He then drove an eighteen wheeler for thirty plus years for T.I.M.E., DC, and Gordon’s Ride Out Company. Then, he worked out his life at Perry’s Appliances. He loved to spend his time volunteering, working for Meals on Wheels for at least thirty years. He loved Alabama Football (Roll Tide Roll!), watching the Atlanta Braves, and watching Mr. Bean and The Three Stooges. He loved spending time with his family, taking his girls frequently to the boat harbor to swim. He loved to play cards and board games. He loved his family dearly, always teasing and picking, and gaining a new nickname, Papa George, by constantly calling his grandkids by the name George. He had a big heart and loved to help everyone he met.
Pallbearers will by Nick Hill, Tyler Neely, Cody Neely, Jacob Louis, Joel Britnell, and Isaac Ritterbush. Honorary Pallbearers will by Gavin Miller, Auston Ritterbush, Logan Dyess, and Eli Reeves.
