Funeral service for Billy Joe Champion, 78, of Decatur will be today at 2 p.m. at Roselawn Funeral Home Chapel with Reverend Johnny Sims officiating. Burial will be in Roselawn Cemetery. Visitation will be today from noon until time of service at the funeral home .Mr. Champion, who passed away Tuesday, December 31, 2013, at his residence, was born May 11, 1935, in Morgan County to Jewel Sisk mother, Millard Champion father. He retired from the State of Alabama and worked with civil engineers building roads in Morgan and Limestone Counties for 30 years. Mr. Champion was preceded in death by his parents and his wife, Mary Louise Shell Champion.He is survived by his son, Billy Joe Champion II of Decatur; sister, Mary Knox of Decatur; and granddaughter, Morrigan Gabrille Champion of Danville.Pallbearers will be Matt Shell, Zack Shell, Andrew Maresh, Shayne Parker, Kyle Lasch, Ronald Dunn and Kevin Maresh.
