CHILTON, William Harding, age 91 of Washington Township, passed away at home on May 10, 2016. William “Bill” was born on November 23, 1924 in Dayton, Ohio to Ralph Henry Chilton and Lenore Kolar Chilton. A lifelong resident of Dayton, he spent his early years growing up in Dayton View, before moving to Kettering and then to Washington Township, where he has resided since 1964. Bill was a 1942 graduate of Fairview High School and went to the College of William and Mary for one year before serving in World War II. After graduation from the United States Naval Officers Training Corps at the University of New Mexico, where he was commissioned as an Ensign, he completed his studies at Purdue University, where he graduated in 1948 with a degree in Chemical Engineering. He spent his working years employed as a chemical engineer in Dayton. After retiring, he enjoyed working for the Montgomery County Courts for the next ten years. Bill met the love of his life on a blind date on New Year’s Eve 1948 and it was love at first sight for each. William Harding Chilton and Delores Deane Jones were married on October 28, 1950 and were blessed to spend sixty-five years together. They enjoyed each other’s company and their life together, with many fond memories traveling, both here and abroad. Along with traveling, Bill enjoyed gardening and was an avid golfer who participated in several golf leagues over the years. He loved to visit his family property “Holly Point” on the beautiful Rappahannock River in Virginia, where he had so many wonderful memories of summers spent there with his father, mother, sister and brother. Bill enjoyed military history (particularly Civil War and WWII) and sports, always rooting for his Purdue Boilermakers. The family could always depend on him for his wisdom and advice. Along with his loving wife, Delores, William is survived by his two children, Jeffrey Harding Chilton (Amy) and Elizabeth Chilton Morabito (Michael). He is also survived by his three grandchildren, Alexander Harding Chilton, Madeline Elizabeth Morabito, and Grant Chilton Morabito, one brother, Ralph Henry Chilton (Edna), one sister, Mary Chilton Graham, and several nieces and nephews.
