W. Frank Armstrong

ARMSTRONG, W. Frank, born August 15, 1918 in Cincinnati, Ohio to Wm. Frank and Loretto (nee O’Connor) Armstrong. Frank is reunited with his beloved wife Gwynedd, who preceded him in death on May 23, 2014. They had a most joyous, loving seventy years of marriage. After graduating from Xavier University in 1941, Frank was a commissioned Lieutenant in the United States Army serving in the Pacific Theatre during WWII there he met his future wife Gwynedd M. Rawson. They married in Brisbane, Australia on January 22, 1944. Returning after WWII, Frank and Gwyn settled in Kettering, Ohio to rear their children. Frank is survived by his children Frank (Fran), Katie (Bob Ellis), Sheilah (Doug Apple), Gwynedd (Bill Schneller), Rev. Christopher, Loretto (Bruce Evans), Dan (Eileen), Amy (Tom Smith), Campion (Jody), twenty seven grandchildren and twenty three great grandchildren. “A life admired and loved” Frank entered eternal life on Saturday May 31, 2014. Frank spent his professional career at W.P.A.F.B (Wright Patterson Air Force Base) retiring in 1976 as the assistant to the Deputy Chief of Staff, Director of Plans and Budget USAF. Frank retired, in 1978, as a full Colonel in the United States Army. Frank had over 37 years of military service. After retirement Frank’s personal ministry was to visit the sick, especially his brothers, sisters and dear friends. Frank (Dad) was an extraordinary person who loved his God, Country and Family. Always kind and loving, full of wisdom and spiritually fulfilled. Frank was preceded in death by his grandson, Dougie Apple Jr., his parents, three brothers, five sisters and their spouses. Visitation is Thursday June 5, 2014, 10:00am to 12 Noon Gathering Room, Saint Albert the Great Catholic Church, 3033 Far Hills Ave Kettering, Ohio 45429. The Mass of Christian Burial will follow the visitation at 12 Noon, Thursday June 5, 2014 at St. Albert the Great Catholic Church. The Committal Service is Friday, June 6, 2014, 11 am at The New St. Joseph Cemetery Cincinnati, Ohio.
