Timothy R. Whitaker, 71 of Kettering, passed away Sunday, February 5, 2023 at Hillspring Nursing Facility in Springboro, OH. He was preceded in death by his parents, Ralph and Mary-Louise Whitaker, and a brother-in-law, Herbert Hertenstein. He is survived by one sister, Sharon Hertenstein, one nephew, Mark Hertenstein, and two nieces; Traci (Jason) Gabbard and Carla (Bryan) Shepard. Four great nieces also survive him: Charlotte Gabbard, Lydia Gabbard, Cassidy Shepard, and Riley Shepard, as do numerous other relatives and friends. A lifelong resident of Kettering, OH, Tim was a 1970 graduate of Fairmont West High School. He was a proud alumnus of Ohio University, having earned a BS in business there. He was also an avid fan of open-wheel automotive racing and a multi-instrumentalist who played drums for the Miller Blackhawks. Family and friends may gather at the Tobias Funeral Home Belmont Chapel, 648 Watervliet Ave. on Sunday, February 19, 2023 from 1-3PM. A celebration of Tim's life will take place at 3PM on Sunday, February 19, 2023.
