Born September 17, 1940, in Cincinnati, Ohio, she was a daughter of the late Sim Bussell and Lora (Prowse) Bussell. She was one of eight children.
Preceding her in death, in addition to her parents, was a son Terry Stamper; two brothers James and Tony; and four sisters Cora, Mary, Vivian, and Ada.
Surviving her are four children, Lola Stamper (Deb) of Clayton, Wanita Hinders (Lisa) of Dayton, Donald Hinders (Georgetta) of Xenia, and Kelly Hinders of Dayton; eleven beautiful grandchildren, Ashley Chafin (Frank), Timothy Stamper, Amanda Barnhart (R.J.), Courtney Bistrek (Adam), Kylle Hinders, Larissa Richards (Kenny), Dalton Hinders, Tylor Hinders (Allison), Carl Ledbetter, Kyle Ledbetter (Kerstin), and Kara Ledbetter (Andrew); nine precious great-grandchildren; a sister Nancy Racke of Cincinnati; and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to being a devoted mother, Thelma was the matriarch and light of her family. Thelma leaves behind many special memories for all those whom she crossed paths over the years. She had the ability to make others feel welcome, appreciated, and loved. Thelma could strike up a conversation with anyone, making them feel as if they had known her their whole life.
Known to her family as “Granny” or “Mom,” she loved her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren with all her heart, being able to spend quality time with each of them, and sharing stories about days of the past. Thelma regularly enjoyed playing bingo, doing crossword puzzles, putting together puzzles, and playing card games.
A viewing will be held Thursday, June 16, at Tobias Funeral Home, 648 Watervliet Avenue, Dayton from 4 to 6:00 p.m. with a Memorial Service to follow. Private ceremony will be held after the Memorial Services have been concluded.
