COMBS, Sarah Ellen (Hanks), age 89, passed away on Monday, October 6, 2014 in Kettering, after a long illness. Born on October 22, 1924 in Colorado Springs, CO. She spent her youth in Denver, CO. and graduated from Lakewood H.S. Following WWII, she relocated to Dayton OH. “Sally”, as many knew her, took an active role in her faith. She was a member of Central Presbyterian Church, but also attended St. George’s Episcopal Church, was a welcome friend in Temple Israel in Dayton, and Convent of the Transfiguration in Glendale, OH. Her quest for knowledge led her to learn to read and write the ancient Greek language. Her love of faith was equal to love of music. An accomplished pianist, she had an extensive musical library. She is survived by her brother John Hanks II, children John, (Donna), Patricia Thomas, (Thomas), William, (Julia), Sandy Bryant, and David, (Nancy), along with 10 grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. A memorial celebration will be held 2 pm Saturday, October 11, 2014, at St. George’s Episcopal Church, 5520 Far Hills Ave., Dayton, OH 45429. The Reverend, Deborah Woolsey, officiating.
