ROBERT DALTON MAYES, 89, of Kettering, and most recently of Greene County, died Saturday, October 13, 2012. Bob was born January 15, 1923, in Adairville, Kentucky, the son of George & Emma Mayes and was preceded in death by his best friend & beloved wife, Frances Marie Mayes, in February of this year, whom he married February 1, 1948. He was also preceded in death by his parents, his brother, Woodrow and his sister, Ann. He is survived by his brother & sister in law, James & Vicki Mayes, of California; his sister-in-law & brother-in-law, Kathryn (Kitty) & Eugen Stiefelmayer, of Roscommon, Michigan; his four (4) children, Teresa (Terri) & Chas Trimbach of Cedarville, OH; John & Mary Mayes of Xenia, OH; Shelley & Larry Gregory of Huber Heights, OH; and Kyle & Leslie Mayes of Dayton, OH. He was also blessed & is survived by his (8) grandchildren, Rob (& Nicole) Mayes, Jessica (Mayes) & Robert Elliott, Emily Kleiner, Andrew Mowry, Patrick (& Robin) Trimbach, Nicholas (& Jessica Laurie) Trimbach, Alexandra Mayes (Phillip Coen) & Aaron Tyler Mayes; and his (14) well-loved great-grandchildren – Kirstie & Dennis; Ali; Michael, Paul & Daniel; Sydney, Paige, Chloe, Kobe & Alissa; Adriana, Isaac & Brayden; numerous other nieces & nephews and many dear friends and his beloved cat, Snow White. Bob was a WWII veteran of the US Army, having served as a tank commander in the Co B, 14th Tank Battalion, 9th Armored Division. He was injured in Germany at the Battle of the Bulge on Christmas Eve, 1944 and was a Purple Heart recipient. He retired from Goodyear Tire & Rubber, having worked as an automobile mechanic for 30+ years. He loved his Cincinnati Reds and he dearly loved his family. He was a 60+ year member of Central Christian Church in Kettering. The family will have visiting hours to celebrate his life at Tobias Funeral Home, Beavercreek Chapel, on Thursday, October 18, 2012, from 6 to 8 PM, with funeral services at 10:30 AM on Friday, October 19, 2012. Burial to follow at Dayton Memorial Park. Special thanks to the staff at the Grand Court, Dayton, and to Dad’s “ladies” for bringing love & friendship into his last months.
