SCHUMACHER, Nicholas W., age 86 of Dayton, passed away Sunday, July 15, 2018. He was born in Glandorf, Ohio, on July 29, 1931 to the late Erma (Schetter) and Wilfred Schumacher. He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Albert and Roger, and sister Rita (Sr. Cleophas, CPPS (Rita)). He is survived by his loving wife of 67 years, Dorothy (Hamm) Schumacher; children, Debra (Robert) Brewer of Kettering, Mark (Carol) Schumacher of Centerville, Lori (Rick) Hull of Centerville and Eric (Katelyn) Schumacher of Upper Arlington; sisters, Angie (Joe) Seyfferle, Eileen Schumacher, Barbara Galluccio and sister-in-law Judy Johnson; grandchildren, Douglas (Niki) Lutz, Christy (Ryan) Burkhart, Jenny (Pete) Ludwig, Alyssa (Dennis) Trosen, Caitlyn (Stu) Hull, Brad Hull and Nicholas Hull; great-grandchildren: Kaylee, Zoe, Matt, Zach, Graham, Ben, Peter, Jillian, Addison, Ken and Nicholas and numerous nieces and nephews. Nick was a 1950 graduate of Stivers High School and attended Wittenberg University. He served our country in the U.S. Army Reserves from 1951 -1957. Nick spent his entire career as a pattern maker, having worked at Duriron, Lacon Pattern and Morris Bean. He was the founder and president of Western Ohio Pattern in Dayton for 35 years and shared his knowledge and expertise of patternmaking and foundry processes by teaching at Sinclair Community College and with his son, Mark (who worked with his father for 35 years), and son-in-law, Rick, who joined him in the trade. He came out of a very short retirement to work for A&B Foundry in Franklin for 13 years before finally retiring (for the second time) in 2008. He was a member of St. Helen’s parish for over 60 years. He was a former member of the Engineer’s Club, American Foundry Society, Buckeye Bass Busters and Miamisburg Moose Lodge. Nick enjoyed spending his free time Bass fishing, walking his beloved dog Baxter, watching golf, basketball “roundball” and OSU football, traveling, dining out with his family (Cracker Barrel, Bob Evans, McDonalds were on frequent rotation though he did love a great steak and martini) sampling cookies (he was our favorite cookie monster) and other sweet treats. He contributed often to education in the State of Ohio by taking his chances on scratch offs and his daily pick 3. Of all of Nick’s many accomplishments he was most proud of his family and loved spending time with his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. We will miss him dearly but feel blessed and lucky to have had such a role model of loving and living life to the fullest. As he always said, “Enjoy it now because you can’t take it with you!” The family would like to thank Dr. Julie Myers for the compassionate care she provided Dad through the past several years. Mass of Christian Burial begins at 10 AM on Friday, July 20, 2018 St. Helen Catholic Church, 5400 Burkhardt Rd. where family will receive friends from 9 AM until the start of Mass.
