Nancy Louise Dougherty, of Kettering Ohio, passed away on December 6, 2022, at Kettering Hospital. She was 91.
Nancy was born and raised in Columbus, Ohio. Growing up just off North High Street, she was a lifelong diehard Ohio State University fan. She attended North High School and graduated from the Ohio State University with a degree in Dental Hygiene. After graduation, she moved to Dayton, Ohio and began working as a dental hygienist for Dr. Wilbur Johnston. It was here in Dayton that Nancy met her future husband E. William (Bill) Dougherty. They were married in July 1960, and had four children, Mary Kay, Barbara, Bill, and Susan. They moved around the country living in Cincinnati, Ohio, Little Rock, Arkansas, and Corpus Christi, Texas, before returning to Kettering in 1974. Bill and Nancy were married for 42 years until his death in March 2003.
Nancy was a mother, wife, grandmother, daughter, sister, aunt, and friend. In her professional career, she worked as a dental hygienist, an elementary school teacher when her children were young, and a receptionist at the Kettering Foundation, until her retirement in 2020 at the age of 89.
Nancy was a member of Christ United Methodist Church and loved Jesus Christ. She was married at the church in 1960 and she was a member of numerous fellowship groups and former president of Christ United Methodist Women’s Group.
Nancy treasured the time she spent at Ohio State University and was a member and past president of the Montgomery County Ohio State University Alumni Group and the Ohio State University Dayton Area Alumni Group.
Other clubs she that were dear to her were the National T.T.T. Society and the Hummel Club. Few people know it, but she has one of the most extensive Hummel collection in the Dayton area.
Nancy was an avid reader, a trait she passed on to her daughters. She also loved to travel, especially to Ohio State Football games. Although she did not like to fly, she never passed up an opportunity to visit some exotic foreign land. Throughout her life, she took numerous trips with her family, church and OSU Alumni group.
Nancy is proceeded her in death by her husband E. William Dougherty, her mother and father, Minnie Belle and Lawrence Fields of Columbus, Ohio, and her sisters Jean Sheridan, Betty Durnford, and JoAnn Durnford.
Nancy is survived by her daughters Mary Kay Dougherty, Barbara Dougherty, and Susan Dougherty, her son Bill Dougherty, daughter-in-law Janet Dougherty, grandson Ryan Dougherty, extended family and friends.
