Camden (Young/Strunks), Nancy A., age 87 of Centerville, passed away Saturday, June 18, 2022. She was born on March 9, 1935 in Dayton, Ohio. Nancy was preceded in death by her parents F. James and Katherine (Schroy) Young, daughter Catherine Strunks, husband of 33 years Ralph Strunks, second husband of nine years Robert Camden, brothers James and Jerry Young, sister Susan Kropa and son in law Darrell Izor. She is survived by sons Ralph “Ed” (Sadie) and Gregory (Michelle) Strunks, children of second marriage Michael (Tonya) Camden and Patricia Izor, nine grandchildren and three great grandchildren. Nancy graduated from Fairview High School, Dayton, Ohio in 1953. She attended St. Olaf College in Northfield, Minnesota where she studied Christian Education and English and graduated in 1957 with a Bachelor of Arts degree. While at St. Olaf, she and another girl borrowed a car, climbed the fence at the city landfill and retrieved Ytterboe the Dog; the cause of the Ytterboe unrest that was covered nationally, picked up by the Associated Press and shared internationally. After college, Nancy taught high school English for two years in Viroqua, Wisconsin before returning to Dayton where she worked as a librarian on the bookmobile and met her first husband, Ralph, who was the driver and taught her the dewey decimal system. She worked for a number of years as a teacher’s aid in the Northridge school system and retired from the Kroger deli after 12 years of service. Music and her faith were central to Nancy’s life. Most recently, she was a devoted member of Mt. Zion Lutheran Church where she was a member of the choir and bell choir. She was a member of the St. Leonard Angel Choir where she spent her last two years and was a long time member of the Miami Valley Chorale. She also volunteered at the West Carrollton Public Library and the Miami Valley Women’s Center for many years. She enjoyed knitting, crocheting, reading and playing her restored Sohmer upright piano. Visitation will be held at Tobias Funeral Home, 5471 Far Hills Ave., Dayton, Ohio 45429 on Saturday July 2 from 10:00am to 12:00pm followed by a celebration of life and procession to Trissel Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her name to the Alzheimer’s Association (alz.org). While Nancy was spared from the disease, it took her mother at an early age, her siblings and many other family members.
