LEMKE, Milbert G.(Jack) was called to God’s heavenly kingdom on Oct 8, 2012. He was born in Conger, Minnesota on August 23, 1922, the first son of George and Mathilda Lemke. As a young man he helped with the family farm but when he came of age he went to California to work on airplanes installing fuel tanks. He enlisted in the Army in 1942 and served as a Medic with the 10th Division of the 87th Mountain Division. Overseas he was in the Po Valley in Italy. He earned a Bronze Star with Oak Leaf Cluster. When he was discharged in 1945 he came to Wright Patterson Air Force Base and made Dayton, Ohio his home.
Jack retired from Howard Paper Mills where he worked first as a millwright and later as a machinist. He loved woodworking and was continuously making gifts for family and friends. He was a charter member of Mt. Calvary Lutheran Church and later joined his current church, Resurrection Evangelical Lutheran Church.
He married his first wife, Anna May Bolinski on 10/26/1946 and together they had two children. Anna May passed away in 1972. He later met and married Virginia Fenton on 9/8/1973. She passed away on Nov 10,2011. Surviving are his son; Chris Lemke, his daughter; Barb (Steve) Gaines, his step daughter; Robin Reynolds, his granddaughters; Stephanie Gaines and Wendy Wolf and his great granddaughters; Autumn and Ashley.
For the last three years he resided with Virginia at Oak Creek Terrace in Kettering Ohio and was cared for by a very compassionate staff. He will be remembered as a soft-spoken, kind and gentle man who was a loving husband and father. He always enjoyed a good joke and would rather laugh than frown. Only God knows how many lives he touched with his love.
