Michael V. Lewis, age 61, died on Wednesday, May 24, 2017, in Dayton. He was born in Sidney, Ohio, to Carroll and Sara (McKirnan) Lewis and was the oldest son, and third of four children. He was a natural athlete and avid arguer who followed his father into the profession of Law. As impassioned as he was imperfect, Michael was a life-long supporter of human rights and provided legal representation to the citizens of Montgomery County as a public defender before leaving for health reasons. Michael was preceded in death by his parents and his sister Kathleen, and leaves behind his children Sara (Lewis) Boyd and Paige (Lewis) and Matthew Yux; his grandsons Brayson (9) and Grant (2); siblings Molly (Lewis) and Steven Rice, and Daniel and Charlene Lewis; nephews Duncan Rice and Patrick Rice, niece Catherine Lewis. Michael was profoundly proud of his daughters and grandsons and will be long remembered for his wicked wit and intellect, and the gentle soul he mostly kept deeply buried. Big Red will be sorely missed. Memorial services will be held on Sunday, May 28, 2017 from 2 – 4 pm at Tobias Funeral Home – Far Hills Chapel, 5471 Far Hills Avenue, Dayton, OH. A private internment will follow. The Lewis family would like to extend their sincerest gratitude to all who provided care to Michael over the length of his extended illness, especially Kim Hall. Memorials may be made in Michael’s name to the League of Women Voters of the Greater Dayton Area.
